SS-31 is an aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide from the Szeto-Schiller series. It contains a D-arginine and 2′,6′-dimethyltyrosine (Dmt). It concentrates at the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it associates with cardiolipin.

It is used in isolated-mitochondria and cell-based assays of membrane potential, electron-transport activity and reactive oxygen species production.
