KPV is the tripeptide Lys-Pro-Val, corresponding to residues 11–13 at the C-terminus of α-MSH. It is small enough to be transported by the PepT1 peptide transporter, which makes it a useful probe in epithelial cell-line uptake studies.
In published cell-culture work, KPV has been examined in NF-κB pathway reporter assays, cytokine expression profiling, and melanocortin receptor binding comparisons with full-length α-MSH.
